Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, senior Researcher of the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov (Russia) Shibaev Andrey Vladimirovich reads a course of lectures for students of the Chemical Faculty from October 17, 2022 to November 12, 2022.
Course description
The course is related to the topics "physics and chemistry of polymers" and "colloidal chemistry" and aims at discussing modern world trends in the study of complex self-assembled systems based on polymers and surfactants. The first part of the course will give general information about polymers, briefly review their synthesis methods, basic structure and properties. Particular attention will be paid to the synthesis, responsive properties and mechanics of networks and gels. The second part will examine the self-assembly of surfactant molecules and wormlike micelles which resemble dynamic polymers. Viscoelastic properties of wormlike micelles and their responsiveness to external factors will be discussed. The third part focuses on special types of polymeric materials important for modern practical applications, namely, networks based on labile interactions, double and nanocomposite networks. Design principles of such materials, their special properties as compared to "traditional" polymer networks, advantages and disadvantages will be discussed. Finally, the fourth part will focus on modern methods of experimental investigation of self-assembled polymer and micellar systems. Scattering methods as the main methods for studying the structure of soft matter will be discussed in detail.
