History
The Department of General History was established in 1966. It was founded by Associate Professor M. I. Boguslavsky (1914-1969), a well-known polonist, one of the co-authors of the three-volume history book of Poland published in 1950s. A. N. Telgarin became the second head of the Department of General History at the Pedagogical Institute, and the first head of the Department ever at the University in 1969-1979. In following years, Associate Professor M. Khassenov (1979-1989), Associate Professor N.M. Farfutdinov (1990-1994), Associate Professor M. V. Shlupikov (1994-1999), Acting Associate Professor L.A. Prokopenko (1999-2000), Associate Professor L.L. Baturina (2000-2005), Associate Professor A.K. Kapyshev (2005-2006), Associate Professor G.M. Smagulova (2006-2012), and Associate Professor B. T. Tuleuova (2012-2020) headed the department. Currently, Associate Professor Z.M. Kenzhegali heads the Department of World History and International Relations.
Since the department started preparing international relations specialists, in 2002 it has received a new name - World History and International Relations.
The teaching staff of the department together with international and foreign organizations actively participates in the organization processes and conduct of scientific and practical events.
In 2005, within the framework of the project «HESP Regional Seminar for Excellence Teaching» under the program of support for higher education of the Open Society Institute (Budapest, Hungary and the Kazakh-German University, Kazakhstan) was conducted the seminar for security research within the department;
In 2007, a seminar on OSCE issues was conducted in the department, which was organized on the basis of Academician Ye.A. Buketov Karaganda State University together with representatives of the OSCE Center in Kazakhstan and experts of the OSCE Research Center of Hamburg (Germany).
Teaching staff:
The department employs doctors, candidates, masters of Science, holders of the republican title «Best University Teacher».

The growth of the student body over the past five years has been 80 %.
Educational programs:
The department implements multilingual training programs in Kazakh, Russian and English.
Graduates of the master's degree program have the opportunity to continue their studies in the doctoral program (PhD) at the faculty under the program 6D020300-History or in other universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the target training 6D020200-International relations.
Accreditation and leadership:
The programs of the department have national accreditation of Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education and occupy worthy positions in national ratings.
The educational program of the department took the 2nd place in the Republic of Kazakhstan according to the National Ranking of educational programs of higher education institutions of the National Chamber of Entrepreneurs «Atameken» in 2020.
7M03106401-International Relations educational program took the 3rd place and 6B03105-International relations educational program took the 4th place in the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education national ranking in 2020.
