The Institute of Digital Economy Research was previously known as the Institute of Market Relations, which was opened in 1981 as a branch of the Institute of Economics of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR.

The main milestones of the formation and development of the Institute:
- 1989 - Center for Social Sciences of the Central Kazakhstan Branch of the Ministry of Education and Science - National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- 1994 - Branch of the Institute of Economics of the Central Kazakhstan Branch of the Ministry of Education and Science - National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- 1997 - Institute of Market Relations of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan;
- 2000 - Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan of February 14, 2000 No. 236 "On some measures for the integration of science and education in the Republic of Kazakhstan" and by order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 410 of April 27, 2000. Academic Institute of Market Relations of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan was attached to the E.A. Buketov KSU.
- 2020 - Based on the Order of the Rector of E.A. Buketov KSU Institute of Market Relations was renamed to the Institute of Digital Economy Research.
The Institute of Digital Economy Research is a scientific division of the university in the field of economic, social and humanitarian sciences.
The purpose of the Institute's activities is to conduct fundamental and applied scientific research in the field of economics, aimed at solving urgent problems of the socio-economic development of the region.
The tasks of the Institute
- implementation of research work and participation in regional, republican and international programs of scientific research in economic areas with the involvement of the scientific potential of the departments of the university;
- organization of research activities of the teaching staff, master’s students and students and the implementation of their scientific achievements into practice;
- involvement of the teaching staff of the university in the work of international, republican and regional conferences, scientific seminars, forums, round tables on topical issues of the economy with the invitation of leading scientists and the public;
- development and conclusion of contracts and agreements on cooperation with related research institutions of Kazakhstan and foreign countries for the successful implementation of work on complex problems, as well as for testing the results of scientific research;
- providing advice on the profile of the Institute's scientific activities within its competence.
The main directions of scientific research are the study of innovative infrastructure of high-tech industrial clusters based on digital platforms; integral multifactor assessment of tourist and recreational potential of destinations; modeling and forecasting of socio-economic processes; market research; comprehensive statistical analysis of innovative products market; commercialization of industrial property; business planning of investment projects
Projects:
The Institute participates in the implementation of scientific research on state and industry programs, carries out marketing research for customers of various levels.
In the period from 2015 to 2020, the Institute carried out grant projects funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
- "Research of the process of commercialization of innovations in the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to identify problems and develop a mechanism for effective management of the innovation process" (state register number 0115РК00983);
- "Integrated multifactor assessment of the tourist and recreational potential of Kazakhstan and development of a competitive regional tourist products development strategy" (state register number 0118РК00222).
The project manager was the director of the Institute Mamrayeva D.G.
As part of the joint activities of the Institute and the Marketing Department, the project of Karaganda University and Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg is being implemented on the topic "GeКavoc - Transfer of dual education programs in logistics, mechatronics and sustainable energy supply to Kazakhstan."
Currently, a grant project is being carried out on the topic "Development of urban tourist routes in Central Kazakhstan based on the use of smart technologies in the digitalization of tourism", funded by the Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2021-2023.
Under the scientific supervision of the Institute's employees, students, master’s students of the university became Grand Prix winners, prize-winners, laureates of various international and republican forums, scientific competitions, conferences, and Olympiads.
The Institute of Digital Economy Research participates in the organization and holding of scientific and practical conferences at various levels on topical issues of economic development. On the basis of the Institute, a sectional meeting is held annually within the framework of the conferences "ECOPROM", "INPROM" of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
The employees of the Institute are the developers of professional standards "Activities in the field of market analysis", "Social media management (SMM)"; are members of the editorial board of the “St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University Journal. Economics"(Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Russia) and" Modern Economics "(Mykolaiv National Agrarian University, Ukraine), as well as official reviewers of journals included in the Scopus database: "Engineering Economics"(Kaunas Technological University, Latvia) , "Economy of the Region" (Institute of Economics of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences). Since 2019, they have been acting as experts in scientific projects of the National Center of State Scientific and Technical Expertise.
Annually, the Institute, together with the Marketing Department, holds the International distance competition of scientific papers "Sustainable Tourism Development", as well as International distance Olympiads in the specialties "Marketing", "Logistics", "Tourism", "Restaurant and Hotel Business".
