Dates and facts
History:
The Department of Colloidal Chemistry and Ecology was opened at Karaganda State University on September 4, 1980. The Department trained specialists in nature protection and comprehensive research of ecological disturbance and restoration. The Department of Colloidal Chemistry and Ecology owes its success, first of all, to the highly qualified teaching staff, namely Professor Zhuravlev V.P., Associate Professors Omarova R.G. (first Dean of the Chemistry Faculty), Volkova V.P., Zhambekov M.I., Tsytsure A.A. and Senior Teachers Weissenberg I.V., Demisheva Ye.F. and Yermekov O.M.
The first head of the Department was Zhuravlev V.P., who had been dealing with the problem of air basin protection for more than 20 years. Later the Department was headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Tsytsura A.A. The scientific direction headed by Tsytsura A.A. is associated with the heterocoagulation of dust aerosols by dispersed liquids.
From 1991 to 2006 the Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Kazakhstan, Laureate of State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science and technology, a prominent scientist in the field of organic chemistry and catalysis Kagarlitsky A.D. worked at the Department of Colloidal Chemistry and Ecology.
In the 90s, the Department of Colloid Chemistry and Ecology was headed by Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Professor Zhambekov M.I., a specialist in the field of chemistry of arsenic and its compounds. Under his leadership a new specialty «Applied Ecology» was opened. The first graduation of students in this specialty was in 2001.
In recent years, 5 candidate dissertations and 3 PhD dissertations have been defended: Absat Z.B., Khalikova Z.S., Kasymova Sh., Musina G.N., Satybaldin A.Zh., Gudun K., Akhmetkarimova Zh. and Tusipkhan A.
In October 2003 the Department was renamed the Department of Chemical Technology and Petrochemistry.
From 2000 to the present the Department is headed by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor M.I. Baikenov, who is a leading specialist in the field of petrochemistry and coal chemistry.
High professional training of qualified specialists with theoretical and practical knowledge in the production of inorganic substances, materials and processing of oil, gas and coal.
Students:
At the Department of Chemical Technology and Petrochemistry students study from different regions of Kazakhstan, as well as from the Republic of Uzbekistan, the People's Republic of China and the Mongolian People's Republic.
The demand for the programs of the Department is evidenced by the growth of the contingent of students, which in recent years has increased more than 3 times. Graduates of the educational program 6В07101 «Chemical technology of inorganic substances» work at large enterprises: LLP Kazakhmys Corporation, NC JSC Kazmunaigas, JSC Shubarkol Komir and JSC Hydromed.
Employment:
The employment rate of graduates is 100%.
Teachears:
13 people work at the Department, including 1 Doctor, 6 Candidates of Chemical and 1 Candidate of Technical Sciences, 1 PhD, 1 Master of Science. 3 holders of the republican grant «The best University teacher»:
- Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Baikenov M.I. ‒ 2005, 2010,
- Ph.D., Professor Tateyeva A.B. 2017,
- Ph.D., Professor Muratbekova A.A. ‒ 2018
Leadership and Accreditation:
In 2018 and 2020 the Independent Agency for Accreditation and Rating and the Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education noted the high rating of the educational program 6В07101 (5В072000) Chemical Technology of Inorganic Substances.
