History:
The department was created on the basis of the department of state law and Soviet construction, opened in 1975. In 1992 it was renamed the Department of Constitutional and International Law. Over the years, the department was headed by professional lawyers-scientists: Candidate of Law, Associate Professor Z.Ya. Bezgans (1972-1980), Candidate of Law, Associate Professor A.S. Matveenkov (1980-1984), Ph.D., associate professor V.N. Prokopenko (1984-1987), Candidate of Law, Associate Professor E.K. Kubeev (1987-1993), candidate of legal sciences, associate professor M.M. Kulybekov (1993-1996), candidate of legal sciences, associate professor S.K. Amandykova (1996-1999), senior teacher N.P. Starozhilova (1999-2000), Candidate of Law, Associate Professor L.S. Zhakaeva (2000-2002), Doctor of Law, Professor S.K. Amandykova (2002-2013), Candidate of Law, Associate Professor A. Bozhkarauly (2013-2019), PhD, Associate Professor G.U. Balgimbekova (2019-2020), PhD, associate professor M.N. Abylasimov (2020).
Teachers:
Today, the department employs 18 teachers with qualifications in the field of jurisprudence, international law, and customs law. The department includes candidates of sciences, PhD doctors, masters holders, and holders of the republican title "The best teacher of the university", practical workers.
Students:
The department specializes 82 students enrolled in the programs "Jurisprudence" and "International Law", including holders of state educational grants, residents of different regions of Kazakhstan, citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Russia.
Employment:
The employment rate of graduates is 75%.
Accreditation and Leadership:
The programs of the department have national accreditation in IQAA and worthy positions in national ratings: for three years the program 5B030200 - International Law takes 3rd place in the rating of IQAA (https://iqaa-ranking.kz/item/10243); 3rd place in the rating "Atameken" 2019
Partners:
The department, together with the Wroclaw University (Poland) and the Kyrgyz State Law Academy under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, prepares doctors of philosophy (PhD) under the program 8D04207801- Jurisprudence.
Every year, leading experts in the field of international and state law from Bulgaria, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, Poland and Uzbekistan read guest lectures for students and teachers of the Faculty of Law.
The department cooperates with government bodies, the Republican Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law, the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan in the Karaganda region.
Academic mobility:
Students of the 6В04203 - International Law program are trained at the universities of Charles University (Czech Republic), and Vilnius University (Lithuania).

The department carries out scientific research on budget programs:
"Constitutional and theoretical and legal problems of improving the political system and form in the Republic of Kazakhstan, legal support of public service in the aspect of the development of global processes", 2009-2011;
"Theoretical and international legal issues of ensuring the national security of the Republic of Kazakhstan", 2012-2014;
"Constitutional and legal protection and ensuring the rights of the child in the formation and development of the juvenile system in Kazakhstan and in the modern world", 2015-2017;
"Constitutional and legal problems of compliance with international electoral standards in national law", 2018-2019.
Graduates:
Many graduates of the department achieve career success and work today in the office of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the office of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the administration of maslikhats and akimats of all levels, judicial and other law enforcement agencies.
