The Department of Civil and Labor Law trains qualified lawyers at three levels of higher education: bachelors and masters in the educational program «Legal support of business», doctors of philosophy (PhD) in the educational program «Jurisprudence».

The students of the department have the opportunity to study along three trajectories of training: «Civil law branch of law», «Legal regulation of relations in the field of entrepreneurial activity», and «Interaction between the state and entrepreneurship».

The training program includes such relevant disciplines as «Civil law of the Republic of Kazakhstan (general part)», «Civil law of the Republic of Kazakhstan (special part)», «Civil procedural law of the Republic of Kazakhstan», «Labor law and social security», «International private law», «Family law of the Republic of Kazakhstan», « Entrepreneurial law», «Land law of the Republic of Kazakhstan», «Environmental law of the Republic of Kazakhstan», «Notaries in the Republic of Kazakhstan», «Alternative ways of resolving civil disputes», etc.

Students receive basic knowledge in the main branches of law and special knowledge in the field of private law, legal regulation of entrepreneurial activity for the implementation of advocacy and the activities of legal consultants to provide legal assistance in order to protect the rights, freedoms and interests of citizens and legal entities.

Graduates of the department will be able to work as a lawyer in the legal department of enterprises, organizations, institutions, as well as a representative or attorney, notary, prosecutor, judge or as an arbitrator or civil servant.

The department implements scientific interests in the following areas of law: private law, civil law, civil procedural law, labor law, private international law, environmental law, land law, family law, business law, transport law, notary.

The subject of scientific interests of the department is connected with the process of studying the problems of improving civil and civil procedural legislation in the conditions of the formation of the national legal system of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The teachers of the department research the problems of contract law, the development of the institution of property law, the protection of children's rights in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the problems of property and personal relations of spouses, issues of the legal regime of state property, improvement of transport legislation, theory and practice of the application of civil law, legal regulation of paid provision services, legal regulation of business and others.

The teachers of the department take an active part in the work of republican and international scientific and practical conferences, both in the Republic of Kazakhstan and in the countries of near and far abroad.

The department publishes an annual collection of works of teachers, doctoral students, undergraduates and students «Scientific essays «De jure, de fact»», in which discussions are held on the most pressing legal issues.

Professors and associate professors of the department have publications in scientific publications recommended by the authorized body, in international scientific publications included in the RSCI database, Web of Science, Scopus with quartile 1,2,3. Most of the teachers have a Hirsch index from 1 to 4.

The teachers of the department participate in the discussion of draft laws, prepare conclusions on draft regulatory acts, as well as on requests from the Constitutional Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Teachers of the Department of Civil and Labor Law provide free consulting assistance to the population in the Legal Clinic of the Karaganda University named after the academic E.A. Buketov. In addition, teachers, together with the legal clinic, annually spend the day of the department and organize campaigns «Lawyers advise» to provide free consulting assistance to students and university employees in shopping centers in Karaganda, in the building of the university, in student`s houses, as well as in the Youth Center «Zhastar Ortalygy».
